Cornwall Ontario — The Cornwall Canada Day Committee celebrated the annual tradition of awarding the Cornwall Senior Volunteer of the Year Award on July 1st to a great local volunteer. Edith Sturgeon has been a key figure at Big Brothers Big Sisters of Cornwall and District for 30 years and counting.
“We are really impressed with Edith’s dedication and strong support for Big Brothers Big Sisters,” said Canada Day Chairman and local Member of Parliament Guy Lauzon. “Furthermore, to volunteer for an organization so well for so many years is quite remarkable. She is an ideal recipient of this recognition.”
In addition to her work with Big Brothers Big Sisters, Edith has volunteered with many other organizations, causes, and events. Please see the attached nomination package submitted by her colleagues at Big Brothers Big Sisters.
Sturgeon was awarded the title of Senior Volunteer of the Year and was presented with the trophy on stage at Lamoureux Park in front of an audience of 25,000 residents gathered for the Canada Day fireworks on July 1st.
