South Dundas — Many local students were in attendance Monday afternoon to celebrate the 200th Anniversary of the Battle of Crysler’s Farm. Students learned the importance of this battle two hundred years ago that was a turning point during the War of 1812 and secured Canada’s sovereignty. The keynote guest speaker was Prime Minister Stephen Harper pictured above who declared that Canada was the best nation in the world to live in.

Former MPP Jim Brownell spoke after the Prime Minister. He reflected and said, “This was truly an amazing day for The Glens. As their Honourary Lieutenant-Colonel, I was proud to deliver a speech at the commemorative ceremony for the Battle of Crysler’s Farm. To have Her Majesty, Queen Elizabeth II as our Colonel-in-Chief is truly exciting! What a day!”
