Officials gathered on Monday, December 16th to celebrate the completion of upgrades to the power supply in Lamoureux Park.
The $108,000 project, which was proposed by the City’s Waterfront Committee and approved by City Council, saw the installation of new power centres in and around the Bandshell and Clock Tower to support festivals and community events that are held in the park throughout the year.
“Lamoureux Park is our flagship park and a key gathering place for our community,” said Mayor Bob Kilger. “This upgrade will provide the necessary infrastructure to support the many special events that are in held in the waterfront park.”
The work was completed by Laurier Electric and Cornwall Electric, who provided a transformer along with some labour and other in-kind services to the project.
“We recognize that special events in Lamoureux Park are important for the economy and the overall quality of life in Cornwall,” said Mike Pescod, Regional Manager of Cornwall Electric. “We are pleased to be able to partner with the City to make these improvements in the park.”
The power upgrade is one of several improvements that have been made in Lamoureux Park in recent years as per the City’s Waterfront Plan. Other recent improvements include the establishment of the children’s splash pad and washroom and the establishment of better access and additional parking spaces (including some designated accessible parking spaces) behind the Bandshell.
