Cornwall River Kings Home Opener

Cornwall Ontario — The River Kings opened their 2014-15 LNAH season with a long road trip and came away with a weekend split.

On Saturday night in Jonquiere, Cornwall was dealt a 5-1 loss by the two-time defending champion Marquis. Francis Charette led the way for Jonquiere with two goals and an assist.

The River Kings power play went 0-for-11 on the night. Doug Andress had the lone Cornwall goal.

On Friday night at Riviere-du-Loup, Loic Lacasse turned aside 45-of-47 shots to backstop the River Kings to a 5-2 victory in their season opener.

Andress’ goal 50 seconds into the third period proved to be the game winner.

Rookie forward Antony Courcelles, Jonathan Jasper, Julien Corriveau and Nicolas Corbeil, into an empty net, also scored for Cornwall.

Olivier Filion celebrated his birthday with a victory in his coaching debut for the River Kings.

Cornwall hosts the Laval Predateurs on Friday, Oct. 10 in its home opener. Action gets under way at 8 p.m. at the Civic Complex.
