Cornwall Ontario — Guy St-Jean, who finished in 11th place running for Cornwall City Council, is buying a home with his husband in Florida. If Guy St-Jean didn’t get elected, that was the plan for the two.
“I guess we never thought that I would finish 11th and on the sidelines, and perhaps, eventually get called up if anyone was unable to continue to serve for whatever reason. I am not willing to wait for this to perhaps happen. It may be selfish of me to think this way, but we have to lookout for ourselves and be happy. Thus, we have decided to move forward and make the move.”
If a spot does open up on Council, Denis Carr who finished in 12th spot, might get the opportunity to fill it.
Guy St-Jean will be back in Cornwall from time to time, and Neo Vintage Furniture will continue to operate under manager Sylvie Guinard.
“”I will continue to be connected to Cornwall and Neo Vintage Furniture will continue to grow with Sylvie Guinard managing the store. I will continue to remain actively involved and will concentrate my efforts expanding the company’s ever growing online presence”, says St-Jean.
We would like to wish Guy St-Jean the best in his future endeavours.
Here is an excerpt from his blog:
Charlie and I were married on August 17, 2013. When we returned to Cornwall, I had many years of creative experience, business experience, and teaching experience, which I used to create “Neo Vintage Furniture”! The main reason we chose Cornwall to launch our business was because we had a unique product in a very unique location. We are quickly becoming the hub for larger urban cities such as Montreal, Ottawa and Toronto.
In 2012, after purchasing a condo at the Cotton Mill Lofts, being a small business owner, and living in the city of Cornwall, I quickly saw room for improvement. I wanted to be part of the positive change for this city and decided to run for council to help achieve that goal.
Although I was running for Council, the decision to run was a joint decision. It is extremely important to have your partner’s 100% support, as without it, things would be extremely difficult. We had many talks about this. Although our common goal was to eventually spend more time on a beach and enjoy life, I had this passion inside that needed to be expressed. With Charlie’s support we had an understanding. If I was to get elected, I would give my all and proudly serve my community; and, we would continue to call Cornwall our home. But, if I wasn’t elected then we would go ahead in achieving our other goal, which was to purchase a home in Florida and live our lives “in the moment”.
That is where we are now. I guess we never thought that I would finish 11th and on the sidelines, and perhaps, eventually get called up if anyone was unable to continue to serve for whatever reason. I am not willing to wait for this to perhaps happen. It may be selfish of me to think this way, but we have to lookout for ourselves and be happy. Thus, we have decided to move forward and make the move.
I will continue to be connected to Cornwall and Neo Vintage Furniture will continue to grow with Sylvie Guinard managing the store. I will continue to remain actively involved and will concentrate my efforts expanding the company’s ever growing online presence.
