(Cornwall, ON) – TR Leger Immigrant Services celebrated the value of women Wednesday by hosting an International Women’s Day Celebration at the agency’s Cornwall office.

The goal of the day was to inform newcomers about the services available to enhance the lives of women in Cornwall, while heightening the profile of immigrant women by showcasing their diversity and multiculturalism. More than 85 women attended the day-long session.

“Part of our organization’s mission is to recognize women,” said Rabia Zeeshan, a settlement outreach worker with the agency. “Our International Women’s Day Celebration was a great opportunity for us to honour women and their contributions to our society, while providing female newcomers with connections and information that will help them in their daily lives.”

The event featured several information booths from agencies providing emergency support such as Baldwin House, to businesses such as AVON and Elegance College, and booths in which newcomers provided information on their cultures and sold traditional cultural items.

The day also offered a chance for women to pamper themselves at booths providing henna tattoos, make-up, manicures and hairstyling.
