Puppies transferred from remote Manitoba community are looking for loving homes

Cornwall, ON (May 29, 2018) – Five puppies that made a long journey from a remote community in Manitoba earlier this month will be ready for adoption Thursday at the Ontario SPCA Stormont, Dundas & Glengarry Animal Centre.

These furry little sweethearts – Vienna, Sydney, Paris, Tokyo and Geneva – are approximately eight weeks old and are looking for a forever home to call their own. Interested in adopting one of them? The Stormont, Dundas & Glengarry Animal Centre will open at 10:30 a.m. on Thursday. Adoptions will be facilitated on a first-come, first-served basis.

These puppies were among 26 dogs transferred from a remote community to be rehomed. On the way to Ontario, the “bark bus” stopped Dryden where it picked up six additional dogs from Second Chance Pet Network. The dogs arrived at the Ontario SPCA Sudbury & District Animal Centre on May 12 for a stopover before heading to various Ontario SPCA Animal Centres and partnering Humane Societies across the province.

The transfer was made possible thanks to the vision of the leadership and volunteers in the community, the collaboration of volunteers along the way, Earthdog Terrier Rescue of Manitoba, K9 Advocates Manitoba, 4Champ Animal Rescue, Northern Legacy Horse Farm, Second Chance Pet Network, Feeding Program for Northern Dogs, Northern Reach Rescue Network and the Northern Spay Neuter Program.

“You are going to want to meet these loveable little Northern pups if you’re been considering welcoming a puppy into your family. They’re almost too cute for words! says Carol Link, Manager, Stormont, Dundas & Glengarry Animal Centre. “If you can’t adopt, there are many ways you can get involved in the Year of the Northern Dog initiative.”

To bring awareness, attention and action to Northern dog overpopulation, the Ontario SPCA has declared 2018 the Year of the Northern Dog. In response to many caring and compassionate Northern communities, the Ontario SPCA and its partners have developed a network of individuals, organizations and communities aimed at bringing awareness to the issue and working alongside Northern communities with a common goal – to change lives.
