Carefor Hospice Cornwall is 1 of 4 local charities to benefit from the new businesses fundraising efforts.

Cornwall, ON, June 8, 2020 – The Happy Popcorn Co. recently made a donation of $1826 to Carefor
Hospice Cornwall. The funds were raised through their May popcorn sales, with a dollar from each
bag sold online donated to Hospice. “I’ve been a part of the annual Hike for Hospice for the last 9
years, hosting the event” says Bill Halman, one half the The Happy Popcorn Co. ownership team.
“When COVID-19 hit, and they had to change up the event, we knew we needed to help out to ensure
they still had the necessary funds coming in to keep the centre functioning long-term”.

The recent donation to Carefor Hospice is not the first for the new business. Since they opened their
doors 6 months ago, they have raised over $3476 for local charities including Beyond 21,
Rachel’s Kids, The Boys and Girls Club of Cornwall SD&G and Carefor Hospice. In addition to
their fundraising, when COVID first hit the province The Happy Popcorn Co, donated over 250 bags
of popcorn to the Cornwall Community Police Services, Maison Baldwin House and Environmental
Services at Cornwall Community Hospital. “It’s a part of our business mantra; Be Kind. Do Good” says
Kristin Davey, co-owner “Our business is only as strong as our community, and boy has our
community stepped up. We are overwhelmed by the support we have received since we opened 6
months ago.“

The Happy Popcorn Co. has plans to continue with their charitable efforts. Despite COVID-19, social
distancing restrictions and the changes they have implemented in the day to day operation of the
popcorn business, they are optimistic that all fundraising goals they have planned will be met. “Again,
we couldn’t do this without our fantastic customers, neighbours and partners” says Kristin “We really
do have a great community here in Cornwall, who always step up and we couldn’t be more grateful to
be a part of it.”
