1.      Council discussed the RFP for Engineering and Architectural Services for the New Fire Station and Training Station.

a.      Much of the discussion was focused on the total project price listed in the RFP. The originally discussed price was $9 million, but the RPF was written to ask for between $9-10 million. Council voted to amend the report from $9-10 million to read just $9 million, but the motion was defeated. The original RFP of between $9-10 will be used.

2.      Beautification Project

a.      Report (page 36-41): https://pub-cornwall.escribemeetings.com/FileStream.ashx?DocumentId=1911

b.      Issue raised regarding tall weeds outside of properties along Brookdale. There is a plan in place to replant trees, change sod, and ask property owners/renters to water the grass. There is a tall grass bylaw that will be enforced more strongly moving forward.

c.      Issue raised regarding the warranty for dead trees along Brookdale. The 2 year warranty for these trees has expired, so the city will be paying for the planting of new trees.

d.      Welcome to Cornwall sign to be constructed and should take 3-4 weeks to be completed. It will be tri-lingual.

3.      Under new business, council voted to revisit the Optimist’s proposal to use the Civic complex parking lot for Ribfest and voted in favour of it.

a.      The new plan proposed by the Optimist club will include support for local restaurants. It will be a one week local fundraiser where people can visit local restaurants, followed by a weekend of Ribber food trucks. https://cornwallribfest.com/

b.      Council voted unanimously in favour of the Optimist Club to use the Civic Complex parking lot.

4.      Repeal of bylaw to regulate open air burning will be discussed at next council meeting on Aug 10.

The next regular meeting of Council will be held on Monday, August 10, 2020.
