So today is finally the day. Excitement at the White Knucklerz RC Clubhouse 9The Clubhouse at 527 A Pitt Street, Cornwall, Ont.) as over 60 bikers from many different clubs (Lancaster to Ottawa) gather for the blessing of the ride before heading out for the 6th Annual John Rothwell Memorial Motorcycle Ride & Hot Rod Event.

This ride happens each year as the major fundraising event for the club that supports local Sick Children. On this day, after the ride, the child who they have sponsored for the year is presented with a “WOW Item” which thy have wished for. This item will make going through treatment and dealing with their illness a bit easier.

Laurie-Jade, one of the members of the club, told me. “This year we are sponsoring ‘ Jersey ‘. She is a sweet 6 year old who has Wilms’ Tumor ( Kidney Cancer ). She lost one of her kidneys in January 2020 and has been going through chemo and radiation for the past 6 months. We are so happy that on July 28th she got to “Ring The Bell”.

I got to meet Jersey and her mother and was so happy to be there when 2 members of the Cornwall Police Service. Const. Mel Chartrand and Const. Will Ridley stopped by to present Jersey with 2 Teddy Bears and had her sit in one of the police cars for a photo.

Unfortunately I won’t be able to see Jersey’s big smile when she receives her WOW item as Sheldon (DJ Shellshock) and I are Videotaping and DJing a wedding this afternoon (Covid-19 style) but I hope to get some photos of her and will post later.
