Know Who to Call

When roofing emergencies come up, it’s best to know of a reputable roofing company that you’re ready to call. With all of the extreme weather in Toronto, you want to have the phone number of the best roofing companies in Toronto on hand to make sure you’re the first person on their list after a storm.

What Can Go Wrong

There are many different things that can go wrong with your roof, even more so during the winter. Keep an eye out for these winter issues with your roof:

  • Damage to shingles — Winter winds can cause shingles to loosen or blow away, which exposes the layers underneath and can ruin the flashing.
  • Condensation — Attic condensation happens when warm inside air comes into contact with cold outside air, which can occur when your home isn’t insulated correctly.
  • Icicles and ice dams — Not only are icicles a threat to people walking below them, but they can also be an indication of ice dams, which are caused by the constant temperature fluctuations making ice melt and refreeze.
  • Punctures to the roof — Tree branches and other debris can fall on your roof during winter winds. If it’s a hard hit, this can result in punctures and leaks in your roof.

Knowing some of the common emergencies that can occur with your roof during the winter is a great way to stay prepared so that you can keep watch for these issues during and after winter storms.

Proper Maintenance

If you’re not already making sure your roof is maintained correctly, now is the time to start. Regular maintenance on a schedule is a great way to ensure your roof is in tip-top shape and ready to take on winter.

  • Using binoculars, examine your roof from the ground to make sure there are no loose or missing shingles.
  • Ensure your gutters have no blockages and that water will be able to flow freely through them.
  • Make sure your house, and especially your attic, is insulated properly to prevent ice dams.

Knowing what can go wrong and working with professionals to ensure your roof is kept in good condition with regular inspections is a great way to stay prepared for emergencies. Now you can rest easy knowing you’re ready to tackle whatever winter throws at you.
