On June 8, 2022, Ontario’s Chief Medical Officer of Health announced that provincial masking requirements in hospitals and other indoor settings will expire as of June 11. However, provincial guidance continues to recommend masking in acute care settings, and that organizations are encouraged to implement their own rules and policies related to masking.

Therefore, at this time, Cornwall Community Hospital (CCH) will not be changing its masking policies and procedures, which apply to visitors, patients (as tolerated), and all staff and physicians. This approach is consistent with other hospitals across the province.

This means even after June 11, anyone entering the hospital will still be required to wear a medical-grade mask. Medical-grade masks are provided to anyone entering CCH.

“As a hospital, we have a duty to care for and protect our patients, staff, and communities. We know masks are one of the most simple and effective tools to prevent the spread of COVID-19, a virus which could be devastating to our high-risk patients,” explains Jeanette Despatie, CCH President and Chief Executive Officer.

“We understand that infection control measures, including masking requirements, may be frustrating, however we ask that individuals remain polite and respectful,“ adds Despatie.

CCH will continue to monitor the COVID-19 pandemic, follow provincial guidance and update its policies as required.
