South Stormont, ON – On Friday, June 3, 2022, Council and Staff of the Township of South Stormont were joined by the family of the late Jim Bancroft to officially announce the naming of a new public highway in the Long Sault Industrial Park as “Jim Bancroft Boulevard.”

“Jim served his community well for many years,” says current Mayor, Bryan McGillis. “He was a strong advocate for industry for our region, and we felt it was fitting to honour him by ensuring his name will live on as a reminder of his contributions to our community and our industry partners.”

Jim Bancroft Boulevard connects Warner Drive to the former rail spur line east of the Long Sault Industrial Park. The new public highway will provide access to new development parcels, providing additional opportunities for economic development for the Township.

Sadly, Mr. Bancroft passed away peacefully in his home with his family by his side on December 1, 2020. In addition to serving various committees and community groups, Jim served on Council for both the former Township of Osnabruck and the Township of South Stormont. Most recently, Mr. Bancroft served as Mayor for the Township of South Stormont from 2014-2018.
