City to host walking tours of Riparian Restoration project

Want to learn more about the City of Cornwall’s recent Riparian Restoration project? Then sign up for one of four free upcoming walking tours!
The rain or shine tours will allow for community members to become acquainted with not only the riparian restoration project undertaken in May 2022, but also local biodiversity and shoreline naturalization in the Raisin River.

“In the spring we planted 350 trees and shrubs in the area with Raisin Region Conservation Authority to provide cover for the River’s shoreline and to protect fish, reptiles and amphibians,” said Angela Parker, Sustainability Project Coordinator for the City of Cornwall. “These free walking tours will be an opportunity for the community to learn about the trees and shrubs that were planted and to find out what species call this area home.”

The walking tours will last 30 minutes and will begin at the entrance of the recreational path across from Snetsinger Park on;
• Wednesday August 3, 10am -10:30am
• Tuesday August 9, 6pm -6:30pm
• Sunday August 14, 10am -10:30am
• Saturday August 20, 6pm – 6:30pm

Participants should park on the side of residential streets near Blessed Sacrament Drive. The tours will begin promptly at the scheduled time; however, late arrivals are still welcome to come and find the group.

The tour route starts down the recreational path to the riparian restoration site behind Silver Cross Park then crosses at the lights to walk over the Pitt Street Bridge and North-side bank of the South Branch of the Raisin River.
