Cornwall Fire Services (CFS) responded to a 2-alarm residential fire in the 1400 block of Holy Cross Blvd at 1:11 pm on January 19, 2023. As a result of circumstances related to the incident a fatality has been confirmed.

“On behalf of the Cornwall Fire Service, I want to express my heartfelt condolences to the victim’s family and loved ones” said Deputy Chief Woods.

The next of kin of the deceased have been notified and out of respect for the family, no further details about the victim are being released at this time.

CFS Fire Prevention Division, in collaboration with the Ontario Fire Marshal, Cornwall Police Service, Office of the Chief Coroner and the Ontario Forensic Pathology Service are investigating.

The investigation to determine the cause of the fire is still ongoing however there is no threat to public safety. No further information will be released pending the investigation.

Tragically, there were 133 fire-related deaths in Ontario in 2022. The highest number of fire-related deaths in more than 20 years.
