The Daily Chuck

Went home for lunch today. My wife had the day off. It reminds me of days gone by where grilled cheeses, tomato soup and Flintstones filled my lunch hour before returning to school. She had chicken defrosting for tonight’s supper but I had other plans. Why make her cook twice in one day and I need a story. With the variety the old Food Court, now renamed “Food Hall” at the Cornwall Square has to offer, I figured we’ll both find something we could enjoy.

With all the good reviews I’ve read about Daily Chuck I’ve really wanted to try it. My wife decided to try it as well. We normally get Wok Express, but all the hype surrounding Daily Chuck has made me curious.

The new Food Hall is actually quite nice. Lofty ceiling, suspended television screens, booths, bar height tables and diner style. As we approached Daily Chuck an aloof young man working the counter asks how he can help. As we peruse the menus, Craig, our server, explains it’s tater tots instead of fries that come with our meal. Seems once again nostalgic as I’ve not had those since I was a child as well. By the look of these uniforms, I’m hoping they hand deliver the food to my table on roller skates.

I ordered the classic cluck combo with a chocolate shake, while the lady had the barbecue cluck combo with a strawberry shake. While we wait at the closest bar table for our order I did a quick scan of the patrons. A good mix of teenagers and seniors scattered throughout the hall. Our conversation turning to weekend plans, future meals and spending time together.

Once we’re called, we quickly grabbed our food and sat at a table.

The chicken burgers were huge! My wife really enjoyed the barbeque sauce while mine was quite traditional.* The tater tots tasted microwaved. Maybe sat under a heat lamp too long? The milkshakes were fantastic, authentic goodness. I’d go back just for another shake. I really liked that I got to watch Alfonso Ribeiro host some terrible game show while we ate. Who has the remote?

Over all we enjoyed our meal. Tater tots though? The new look to the Food Hall gives the experience a nice ambiance and we’ll certainly be back.

The Daily Chuck is located in the Cornwall Square food court.

Editor’s Note: one distinguishing difference between a chuck burger and a regular burger is in the way they do the meat. First off, they ground their Canadian chuck beef daily on site so it is as fresh as can be, and second, they cook the meat by pressing it on the grill to the point where the patties becomes very thin and crispy. Served with their special sauce, it makes quite the burger.
