The esteemed fashion outlet will once again establish itself as a primary tenant at the Downtown shopping center, this time accompanied by two well-loved sibling brands: Urban Kids and Forever 21.
Tom Hughes, the Vice President of WBG, expressed his enthusiasm, stating, “It brings us immense joy to announce the return of Urban Planet to Cornwall Square, and we are just as thrilled to welcome Urban Kids and Forever 21. We are fulfilling our commitment to creating job opportunities for the local community and to rejuvenating the city’s beloved shopping center.”
Urban Planet stands out for its rapid growth and innovative approach, ranking as one of Canada’s leading fashion retailers with over 100 locations nationwide.
Previously, before its closure in 2021 due to the worldwide health crisis, Urban Planet was the sole occupant of the 18,000-square-foot space in the former Sears store on Cornwall Square’s upper level. In late 2023, the umbrella organization, YM Inc., acquired the lease for the entire 45,000 square foot space on the upper level, demonstrating a strong belief in Cornwall’s demand for fashion.
YM Inc. officially took possession of the premises on January 15, 2024. They are on track to finalize the layout, fixture installation, and display arrangement in readiness for the grand opening scheduled for early March 2024.
Meanwhile, WBG has made substantial investments in the retail area, including the installation of state-of-the-art LED lighting, the refurbishment of the existing carpeting, and improvements to the escalator enclosure. These upgrades complement a significant $1.9-million investment in revitalizing the upper-level Food Hall and a project to upgrade the mall’s lighting to LED technology, both of which are currently in progress.
