Someone pinch me and tell me that I am still in Cornwall and not Montreal or Ottawa.

Not since the staging of the Cornwall Multicultural Festival and Worldfest, in the 1980s and ‘90s has Cornwall hosted such a vibrant, colourful cultural celebration, as the recent International Afro and Diversity Festival.

Welcome to the land of colour and diversity,
Lamoureux Park!

Quebec artist Martin Caron playing the traditional West African, 21 string Kora (harp/lute).

Visitors were immersed in a cascade of languages, while being buoyed along to international rhythms as they made their way through a bazaar featuring art, fashions, and traditions from the Caribbean, South America, and West Africa.

Morocco’s flag waving above their hospitality tent, where “No matter where you are from,
we’re glad you’re our neighbour.”
Hostess Fatima Reda invited visitors inside a traditional Moroccan tent to relax and enjoy
fabulous almond cookie tea.

The free entertainment provided tantalizing glimpses of Egypt, the Caribbean, Philippines, West Africa and our Indigenous North American, to name just some of the cultures represented.

Then there was the food!

A drum roll please … A plate of traditional Incan (Peruvian) food, anticuchos and ceviche. In this case, tender, spicy, mouth-watering grilled beef -heart and squid, with spring onion salsa. I wanted gastronomic adventure, and found it!
My taste buds couldn’t have been more content.

If you are a certain age you can remember when pizza was considered exotic.

Fortunately for our taste buds all of this has changed, and visitors could enjoy Mid East  kebabs,  Filipino fare, Mexican tacos, Thai food, Japanese bubble tea, and Peruvian ceviche, with nary a donut in sight!

The organizers accomplished their “Mission,” and more in “Promoting Afro culture and diversity in all of its spendour.”
