Alexandria, ON The Hôpital Glengarry Memorial Hospital (HGMH) Foundation is proud to announce the success of its 7th Annual Washer Tournament, held Saturday, April 11 at the Tim Hortons Dome in Alexandria. The event brought together 32 teams in a friendly but competitive day, raising approximately $4,500 in support of local healthcare initiatives.
The Tim Hortons Dome served as the backdrop for a strong show of community support, with participants, volunteers, and partners contributing to an energetic and welcoming atmosphere. While the tournament remains a popular local tradition, its purpose continues to centre on addressing real healthcare needs in the community.
Proceeds from this year’s event support the Foundation’s CT Scanner Campaign: an important step toward improving access to diagnostic imaging for local residents. The addition of a CT scanner at Hôpital Glengarry Memorial Hospital would significantly reduce the need for patients to travel outside the region for essential tests.
“We know that having more services available locally can make things easier for patients,” said HGMH Foundation Board Chair Mark Adam. “That’s what drives events like this. The support we saw today helps us bring critical tools like a CT scanner to our hospital and advance care in our community.”
Adam added that the strength of the event lies in its simplicity and community spirit. “What stands out is how a simple, fun event can bring people together to support something we all rely on: our local hospital,” he said.
The success of the tournament was made possible through the support of valued community partners, including the Township of North Glengarry, the Tim Hortons Dome staff, B&B Food Market, Tim Hortons, Significo and major sponsor I.D.A. The People Pharmacy – Alexandria. Their contributions ensured the event ran smoothly and created an enjoyable experience for all involved.
Special recognition is also extended to the Alexandria & District Lions Club, led by Jeremy Dubeau and Cassie Depratto Nutt, for their generous $1,000 donation and their hands-on volunteer support throughout the day.
As with many community hospitals across Ontario, Hôpital Glengarry Memorial Hospital relies on the Foundation to fund essential medical equipment. Events like the Washer Tournament play a critical role in helping bridge that gap and ensure patients have access to the care they need, close to home.
HGMH Foundation extends its sincere thanks to all participants, volunteers, sponsors, and supporters. Planning for next year’s tournament will begin in the months ahead, as the Foundation continues its work to strengthen local healthcare and advance the CT Scanner Campaign.
