Thursday night (June 25) was date night for Sheldon and me, and what a perfect choice we made! We headed to the DEV Hotel & Conference Centre for the broadcast premiere of Stacey Case‘s new television series, Cheese On Top” celebrating one of Cornwall’s greatest claims to fame—our pizza!
Not knowing quite what to expect, we were pleasantly surprised as the foyer quickly filled with excited fans, while delicious pizzas branded “Cheese on Top” were served fresh from the pizza oven by Cornwall BBQ. By 8 p.m., everyone made their way into the auditorium to enjoy the first two episodes of the series—a project that took six days to film and an incredible seven months to edit.
From the opening scene, I was hooked. The fast-paced, laugh-out-loud “dairy-forward punk rock comedy” showcases many of Cornwall’s beloved mom-and-pop pizzerias while comparing our famous pizza style to Windsor’s. Add in the infectious punk rock soundtrack by Bloodshot Bill and Stacey Case’s signature humour, and you’ve got a show that’s impossible to look away from.
I learned something new, too! Cornwall pizza isn’t just delicious—it has its own identity. Our signature style features a thick crust, generous layers of toppings, and, of course, cheese on top, unlike most pizzas where the toppings sit above the cheese.
Premiering on Bell Fibe tomorrow, (June 26) Cheese on Top is more than just entertaining—it’s a fantastic way to showcase Cornwall to a wider audience and tempt pizza lovers to visit and experience our unique style for themselves. If you have a hard time finding the show, the producer, CD Redmond advised us, to just search “cheese on top” and it will come up.
Following the screening, he led a lively Q&A session that gave everyone a behind-the-scenes look at the making of the series. We left feeling energized, proud, and grateful to have been part of such a fun evening. It was made even more special by seeing so many familiar faces featured throughout the show.
