The Ontario government is investing more than $1.8 million into health-care services in Stormont–Dundas–South Glengarry, with funding directed to both Cornwall and Winchester hospitals to expand diagnostic imaging and reduce surgical backlogs.
The announcement was made February 19 in Cornwall.
According to the province, the funding is intended to reduce wait times and improve access to critical services by increasing CT scan capacity and supporting additional surgical procedures.
“Every day, our hospitals provide life-saving and compassionate care when it matters most,” said Nolan Quinn, MPP for Stormont-Dundas-South Glengarry. “Through this investment, our government is ensuring that families in our community have faster, more reliable access to the care they need to live healthy, happy lives.”
Increased CT Scan Capacity
As part of the funding:
- $701,500 will go to Cornwall Community Hospital
- $59,250 will go to Winchester District Memorial Hospital
The money will increase Computed Tomography (CT) scan capacity, allowing more diagnostic imaging to be completed locally. Province-wide, this initiative is part of an $81 million investment to add 324,000 CT scan hours at 86 hospitals across Ontario in 2025–26.
Supporting Additional Surgeries
Additional funding will also support surgical procedures:
- $961,200 for Cornwall Community Hospital
- $134,900 for Winchester District Memorial Hospital
The province says this funding is part of a $100 million investment to help hospitals complete more procedures in 2025–26, including neurosurgeries, orthopedic surgeries, gynecologic surgeries, cataract surgeries, hernia surgeries and pediatric surgeries.
“This funding directly supports Cornwall Community Hospital’s 2022-2027 Strategic Plan, particularly our focus on Recovery by enhancing access to care, strengthening operational excellence, and expanding our diagnostic capacity,” said Jeanette Despatie, President and Chief Executive Officer of Cornwall Community Hospital. “By increasing surgical activity and CT imaging hours, we are improving timely access to care for local patients while supporting a more integrated and sustainable health system. We are grateful to the Ontario government and MPP Nolan Quinn for this important investment in our community.”
“Thank you to the government for the funding to enable WDMH to provide more services to our patients” said Cholly Boland, Chief Executive Officer of Winchester District Memorial Hospital.
The province says these investments are part of its broader strategy, Your Health: A Plan for Connected and Convenient Care, aimed at modernizing Ontario’s health-care system.
