OUT and ABOUT with Seeker Chick Mai-Liis: Along with other members of the Cornwall media, I attended the Sarah Good for Mayor / pour mairesse Campaign Kick-Off on Thursday, September 17th, from 6 to 8 pm at the Best Western in Cornwall. In the first photo, Sarah is seen with her biggest supporter — her husband.
The Cabaret Room was filled with Sarah’s supporters and was certainly flowing with energy and positivity.
Sarah’s older brother, Jesse, welcomed everyone, and then we heard some positive words from Cornwall Counsellor Carilyne Hébert about the last four years that she has served on Cornwall’s City Council alongside Councellor Sarah Good.
Carilyne said that “Sarah always processes, listens, does her homework and comes to the table informed and prepared before responding to anything. She is never biased and cares passionately”. Carilyne continued to say: “Sarah is not just Counsellor Good – she is the Sarah who gives a S**t about this community (pardon my language but it has to be said), Sarah who listens, the Sarah who brings people together, the Sarah who has seen thousands of photos of my nephew, the Sarah who leads with love. Stepping away from Council is easier knowing the people I trust are willing to step forward. We need a Mayor who is willing to make changes and has the drive to keep pushing the City forward.”
“For the last 4 years, those are the qualities I’ve seen in Sarah. I’ve had a front row seat and I’ve seen the person behind the title. So as you take this next step, I hope you keep doing what you’re doing, keep asking those questions, keep willing to disagree, and don’t let anyone convince you that caring deeply is a weakness. I’m proud to stand up to you tonight just like I’ve been proud to sit beside you for the past 4 years!”
Etienne Saint-Aubin spoke next, saying that Cornwall needs a fresh, dynamic approach. He told us how sad he was when Sarah withdrew her name from the Mayoral Candidates list and decided not to re-run for Council following the personal attacks she endured on Facebook.
However, between May and now, Sarah took time to reflect, and many people encouraged her to reapply. So, on August 20th — one day before nominations closed — she did just that, adding her name to the Mayoral race alongside incumbent Justin Towndale, Nicole Spahich and Art Levert.
Etienne said how happy he is that Sarah Good, the leader of her generation, is back and that now “we have the choice of a generation.”
He continued by saying that eight years ago he helped elect Bernadette Clement and: “I’m here to tell you that the time has come again – the time for leadership, the time for hope, the time for vision, the time for determination, the time for getting a wise and effective leader elected. The time for true leadership, where the leader steers the shop forward rather than allowing it to drift.
So Government of the people, by the people of Cornwall, for and because of the people of Cornwall. Let us take that upward road to and renewal and let us all work hard to elect Sarah Good for our Mayor.”
I watched Sarah become visibly emotional as she listened to these words of encouragement. When she took the stage to speak about why she is running for Mayor and what her vision is for Cornwall and its people, she admitted that she had a hard time holding back the tears — not a good skill that she possesses!

She also took time to answer questions and comments from the audience and interacted with her many supporters before and after the presentations.
