Got plans Sunday? Here’s one.
Fountaingate Christian Assembly is holding its Big Give this Sunday, October 18, at the church at 949 Mohawk Drive in Cornwall.
Here’s how the day works. The regular Sunday service starts at 10:30 a.m. The Big Give follows right after, from around 12:15 p.m.
Hundreds of free items will be available, but to know what, you simply have to show up.
This isn’t the church’s first Big Give, either. Fountaingate held a Big Give Sunday back in February, alongside its Missions Sunday service.
And Cornwall knows a thing or two about Big Give days.
Years ago, Immanuel Christian Reformed Church and Harvest Christian Fellowship teamed up for the first one in the city. It was a giant yard sale where nothing was for sale. Everything was free. There was a barbecue, baked goods, haircuts, and a station for the kids.
How did it go? 300 hot dogs were gone before noon. About 70 per cent of the yard sale items were snapped up within an hour.
By 2018, First Baptist Church had joined in, making it three Cornwall churches taking part.
The idea itself started in Ottawa, as a free garage sale at one church in 2009. It has since grown into a movement that stretches across Canada. The concept is simple: churches give things away for free and ask for nothing in return.
Now it’s Fountaingate’s turn on Sunday. Stop by. Say hi.
When: Sunday, October 18. Service at 10:30 a.m., Big Give from around 12:15 p.m.
