Cornwall celebrates St. Lawrence College Week, April 3 to 8
Today, St. Lawrence College is launching the 50 Acts Challenge, part of a week-long celebration of the college’s 50th anniversary.
St. Lawrence College enrolled its first students in 1967 and has been an integral part of the community ever since, graduating almost 90,000 students, most of whom continue to live and work in our communities.
“This is an opportunity for St. Lawrence College to give back to the communities that do so much to support our students,” said Glenn Vollebregt, President and CEO.
Among the 50 Acts Challenge activities include:
- Community Integration for Cooperative Education (CICE) student are holding a peanut butter drive to benefit the Agape Centre Food Bank, in partnership with Brown’s Dining Solutions
- Social Service Worker (SSW) students donated several cases of water to the Trinity Drop-In Day Program
- Cornwall Campus Green Team, as part of their third annual e-waste collection event will hold a pancake breakfast on April 6, and will accept waste during Open House on Saturday, April 8.
- Spring Clothing Drive: a SSW student is collecting gently used clothing, purses, and backpacks as well as newly purchased toiletries for the local woman’s shelter, Maison Baldwin House.
In addition, Cornwall City Council has proclaimed the week of April 3 to 8 St. Lawrence College Week.
“I want to thank Cornwall City Council for proclaiming this week St. Lawrence College Week in Cornwall,” said Vollebregt. “This is one more example of the incredible level of support our students receive from the Cornwall community.”
Celebrations in honour of St. Lawrence College’s 50th anniversary will continue throughout 2017. Alumni celebrations will take place over the summer. Open Time Capsules featuring college memorabilia from will be unveiled in Cornwall next fall.
