Cornwall, Ontario – The invitation in the Seeker read as follows: “Come help Caydence Andre celebrate her 11th birthday and help raise funds for MS Society. When: Saturday January 13th. What Time: 2pm to 5:30pm. Where: at the Trinity Anglican Church Hall – 105 Second Street West.

Come and meet Sparky the fire dog, The Colts mascot Slapshot, the Seeker Chicks Julia and Mai-Liis and Shannon and Erica from DCN’s “The Couch”. There will be Zumba with Jasmine and Adele, a Photo Booth with Carol Sauve, Seaway Slot Car Racing and of course lots of music to dance to. Enjoy snow cones and cotton candy, a bake sale and a silent auction. Everything at the event is by donation. Come on out and have a great time celebrating Caydence’s 11th Birthday and help raise money for a great cause. Hope to see you all there!

Ending with “see you all tomorrow, Rain, Snow or Shine – WE WILL BE CELEBRATING!”

and … despite the stormy weather outside yesterday, the church hall was indeed filled with kids (and adults) who ventured out to help Caydence celebrate and give back to the community with grand total of $516.25 raised.

For those who do not know, MS or Multiple Sclerosis is an autoimmune disease of the central nervous system for which there is currently no cure and which causes symptoms like extreme fatigue, weakness, tingling, vision problems, bladder problems and depression with effects that can be financial, emotional and physical.

While most children her age look forward to receiving gifts on their birthdays, Caydence’s 10th birthday last year was an ALS fundraiser and she already has plans for her 12th birthday celebration. What are these plans you ask? – well you will just have to wait and see and come out next year with The Seeker Chicks to help this wonderful little community volunteer celebrate her birthday in her own unique way, with the help of her also community minded mother Rachelle Andre of course.

Oh, and if anyone is wondering what the small green rectangle is in the bottom right hand corner – it is something that was made by Caydence’s mother Rachelle for the Bake Sale –  “Potato Candy”  – very sweet and delicious made from a potato, icing sugar, food colouring and peanut butter. Interesting to say the least! What will she come up with next year?
