Cornwall, Ontario: Organizers of the 2019 Cornwall SDG Counties Pan American Bass Championship are hoping to hear from local fishing enthusiasts who want to volunteer as ‘Scrutineers’ during the tournament on Thursday October 17th and Friday October 18th on Lake St. Francis.
The top professional anglers from Canada, United States, Mexico and Akwesasne First Nation will be “going for the gold”. While each nation competes as a team, anglers fish in pairs and require a Scrutineer be on board each boat to ensure that the rules of the tournament are followed. “If you’re into fishing and want to learn how the Pros find and catch big bass, this is a great opportunity,’ states Mike Melnik of the Canadian Sportfishing Industry Association. “While it is a volunteer position, we will look after the Scrutineers’ meals for the two days and make sure they take home a keepsake from this historic event” adds Melnik.
This is the first-ever Pan Am Bass Championship to be held on Canadian water and land, and it is the starting point for the newly-established Canadian International Sportfishing Association.
