Local artisan duo raising money for breast cancer

October is Breast Cancer Awareness Month and the women of Homespun Lovey have spun up a fundraiser of their own to raise money for the cause.

The local macrame and wood-burned art sold by Homespun Lovey is produced by two South Glengarry friends, Bianka Sauvé and Angie Osman, both mothers who bonded over their passion for creating hand-designed art pieces that are one-of-a-kind.

This summer, one of Homespun Lovey’s signature pieces became an instant hit: a macrame outline of a woman’s breasts which they will be selling in both keychain and wall-hanging form throughout October. A portion of the proceeds from each piece sold will go to the new breast cancer treatment program at the Cornwall Community Hospital.

“The popularity of this item is really what led us to plan our first fundraiser” said Sauvé

“We saw how many people loved this piece so we decided it would be a great way to give back and the timing worked out really well” she added.

The pair hope the fundraiser will not only raise money but also bring awareness to the cause while making the outline of breasts less taboo.

“Sometimes, it takes something like art to make people feel more comfortable with the idea of seeing the outline of breasts” said Osman.

The local artisans have been gaining popularity in the area after attending multiple vendor shows this summer. The duo have been busy crafting up their homemade products and are excited to grow their business in this area and beyond.

Their breast-themed wall-hangings and keychains are for sale online with both shipping and local pick-up options available. They are also available for purchase in-store at DG Vintage, located downtown at 5 First St. E. Any purchases of the two pieces made online or in-store during the month of October will see proceeds donated to the cause.
