The Eastern Ontario Health Unit (EOHU) is asking the public to check the EOHU website for clinic delays or cancellations before attending vaccination clinics. Due to staffing constraints from increased COVID-19 cases and self-isolation, some clinics may be running on a delay, or may be cancelled. The EOHU will post updates on affected clinics on their website and social media.

In affected clinics where the shortage is mild, appointments may be running late. Clinics with severe staffing shortages will be cancelled, and clients with appointments for these clinics will be offered alternative arrangements. Clients whose appointment was cancelled will have the option to rebook an appointment through Ontario’s booking portal or be referred to an existing clinic in the EOHU area.

Information on clinics impacted by staffing shortages will be posted on the EOHU website, social media, and at the clinic as soon as it is available. Those with vaccination appointments booked at a community vaccination clinic are advised to check the EOHU website before heading to their appointment to see if their appointment is affected.

“Increases in COVID-19 cases have impacted the EOHU, much like many businesses and industries in Ontario, and some of our clinic staff have to isolate to prevent further spread.” says Dr. Paul Roumeliotis, Medical Officer of Health at the Eastern Ontario Health Unit (EOHU). “We see thousands of clients at our vaccination clinics every week, and the safety of our staff, their families, and our community is our top concern. We understand frustrations with the situation, and we are doing everything we can to continue vaccinating as many people as possible.”

Appointments for COVID-19 vaccinations can be booked through Ontario’s booking portal at Ontario.ca/book-vaccine or by calling the Provincial Vaccine Contact Centre at 1-833-943-3900. Appointments are added as vaccine supply becomes available, so eligible clients are reminded to check back often. Participating pharmacies and physicians are also offering appointments.
