Positively Marlene – March, the month to wish you all a Happy St. Patricks Day!

Hello there to all of you who have decided to pick up this Fabulously Fun & Informative NewsMagazine here in the Cornwall, and the S. D. & G. area. SPRING is on it’s way. YAY! So, we had better get our minds thinking of all of the “Special Projects” and many other things that we would like to be doing this year. Perhaps start READING again. Pick up a book to get yourselves nestled in to enjoy an adventure, or perhaps a biography of one of your favorite movie stars, or one of your favorite singers, bands or maybe even a well known poet or artist etc. SPRING is the time of RENEWAL and REBIRTH of the many types of flowers, birds, and animals that have their babies during this time of year. Even we humans are having SPRING babies after such a long year during this Covid crisis. We can also think of venturing out to enjoy the fresh air, the different sights and sounds that SPRING brings us at this time of year. As well as the ever so welcomed sunshine. May SPRING bring you happiness and joy.

Interesting Facts: How is a Horseshoe related to St. Patrick’s day you may ask? Well, Saint Dunstan was requested to shoe the devil’s horse. But, instead, he nailed the horseshoe to the devil’s foot and he would only agree to remove it if the devil promised to never enter a household that had a horseshoe on the door. Therefore, horseshoes have come to symbolize Luck and Security from evil. How did the Shamrock become associated with St. Patrick? Well, the 3-leafed clover which is a type of trefoil plant, has been considered the unofficial national flower of Ireland for many centuries. The Irish legend says that Saint Patrick used the Shamrock as an educational symbol to explain the Holy Trinity to non-believers as he converted the Irish to Christianity in the 4th century.

Steal Of A Deal: This month I have chosen a unique item that I had wanted for a very long time. Johnny and I went into the Salvation Army Thrift Store during Christmas and he spotted it from across the store. It is an antique typewriter made in Canada from the now defunct, Eaton’s department store. They were asking $50.00, but it got reduced to $25.00 that day. YAY, LUCKY FOR ME! I plan to start using it and have the nostalgic feeling of of my youth by typing on a “REAL TYPEWRITER” Oh, Johnny.. Where’s the typewriter paper?

More Facts on St Patrick’s Day… Daewyn Succat was born in England and was kidnapped at the age of 16 by Irish Pirates. He then was taken to be sold into slavery. He escaped six years later, and returned to England where he planned to return to Ireland to convert the people to Christianity, whilst abolishing slavery and human sacrifices. Daewyn was never canonized by the Catholic Church as a Saint, he wasn’t even Irish. His name wasn’t Patrick. Saint Patrick of Ireland never existed… Yet, we still honor him to this day, mostly by wearing shamrocks and green clothing along with drinking green beer and other spirits. Irish Proverb: Here’s to a long life and a merry one. A quick death and an easy one. A pretty girl (or handsome boy) and an honest one. A cold pint and another one!

Tip of the Month: Here are Four Important Laws of Growth: (1) SPEAK LESS! Just let your RESULTS speak for you. (2) LISTEN MORE! We can not LEARN, if we do not LISTEN! We can not GROW, if we do not LEARN! (3) REACT LESS! The less we REACT, the better we can RESPOND! (4) OBSERVE MORE! The more we OBSERVE, the CLEARER the situation. The CLEARER the situation, the better our RESULTS. The better our REACTIONS, the better for our RESULTS! If we want to GROW we cannot stay in the same place, or situation and expect to grow. Family News: My niece, Amanda’s birthday is on the 21st. May you have an awesome birthday with your family. All the very best in the upcoming year with all that you decide to do in 2022. I also have a wonderful announcement to share with you. My youngest son, Marcus and his lovely wife, Dakota are expecting their second child at the end of July.. early August. Community News: This month I have chosen to give a mention to a very good friend of mine for over 10 years. She is a fabulous, licensed hairdresser with over 35 years experience. She studied Hairdressing/Cosmetology at the ~ Art Institute~ in Montreal, Quebec. She specializes in color, highlights, low lights, cuts, and blow outs.. and has the Best Prices in town! I have been one of her happy clients for many years now and she always can make me feel and look like a Queen or even a movie star at times. Her name is Corrine Sullivan McGimpsey. She owns and operates ~ The Secret Salon~ right here in Cornwall, Ont. Corrine is available throughout the week, and she even works on weekends to help you with all of your Hair Needs & Wants.
