Liberal Leadership Candidate Karen McCrimmon will visit Cornwall on Wednesday, February 20th.

Cornwall Ontario – Stormont-Dundas-South Glengarry Federal riding association President Del Jones announced today that National Liberal leadership candidate Karen McCrimmon will visit Cornwall on Wednesday, February 20, 2013.

“We are pleased that Ms. McCrimmon, has accepted our invitation to address members, supporters and all those interested in the federal Liberal leadership campaign,” said Mr. Jones.

The Stormont Dundas South Glengarry riding association will host a meet and greet for Ms. McCrimmon at the Knights of Columbus, 205 Second St. East (Amelia St. entrance), Cornwall, ON from 7:00 to 9:00 p.m..

“This is an open event, anyone from the public that would like to hear Ms. McCrimmon speak or meet her is welcome to attend, there is no admittance charge, everyone is welcome,” said Mr. Jones.

Karen McCrimmon is a retired Lieutenant Colonel of the Canadian Forces. She has the distinction of being the first woman ever to command a Canadian Forces airforce squadron. As Commanding Officer of 429 Squadron, which flew tactical transport C130 Hercules, Karen and her crews carried out many humanitarian and military operations around the globe.

Karen served in the Gulf War, the Balkans, Afghanistan, and was also a senior staff officer at NATO headquarters in Germany. In 1995, she was awarded the Order of Military Merit, one of the highest peace time military awards.

“As the March 3rd cut off for signing up new members or supporters to be eligible to vote in the Liberal leadership contest Ms. McCrimmon’s visit is welcome as an excellent opportunity for residents of this riding to see and hear first-hand why they might want to become involved in this process,” said Mr. Jones, “all leadership candidates have been invited to visit our riding.”
