Cornwall River Kings Playoff Round 2Again tonight, all the goals scored by Sorel were on the power play, en route to a 5-2 win over the Cornwall River Kings.  Cornwall now faces elimination down 3-1 in the series at home tomorrow afternoon.

Both teams came out flying with big hits trying to set the tone for the game. Each club a two power play opportunities with a few chances but it remained scoreless for almost the entire period.  In the final minute of the period Loic Lacasse made a huge save and the puck was sent down the other end.  Great fore-checking from the River Kings resulted in a Mathieu Curadeau goal with only 12 seconds remaining. The Kings took a 1-0 lead into the intermission.

It was a tough second period for the River Kings who gave up four power play goals. It started 1:31 into the frame when Mathieu Dumas scored during Sorel`s first man advantage.  The River Kings would get their own power play goal about three minutes later when captain Steve Simoes tips one past Francis Gourdeau. Then Kings got into more penalty trouble and were down two men for over a minute and Sorel made them pay with two power play markers.  One from Gregory Dupré, and the other from Dominic Chiasson.  Sorel took a 4-2 lead into the third period.

The third period was much of the same for a frustrated River Kings team who, despite a few scoring chances early, got into penalty trouble.  Late in the game still trailing by two goals they took a few penalties that saw them down two men for the second time of the night. Eric Doucet put the final nail in the coffin at 16:57 of the third to make it 5-2 and out of reach for the home team.

Game five is in Cornwall tomorrow at 3:00pm.  Tickets are available at the civic complex box office.
