River KingsCornwall Ontario — General manager Mitch Gagne continues to tinker with the Cornwall River Kings lineup.

Gagne shipped veteran forward Dominic Chiasson to the Thetford-Mines Isothermic on Tuesday afternoon for a pair of draft picks. Cornwall receives Thetford’s 8th and a 9th round picks in 2015.

“The league has reduced the salary cap and I have a budget to work with,” said Gagne. With a growing number of young forwards competing for roster spots, the 37-year-old became expendable.

“We pick up two draft picks which help us with the CHL Junior/Ontario rule and our plans for the future,” said Gagne.

Chiasson, a 10-year veteran of the LNAH, had 15 goals and 17 assists in 38 games for Cornwall last season.

There were other teams interested in the veteran, but ultimately Gagne decided on Thethford-Mines, where Chiasson’s girlfriend is from. “That did come into play,” said Gagne. “We wish nothing but the best for the successful veteran.”
