Cornwall Ontario — Then there were two. Two-time Mayor Bob Kilger is planning to run for a third time. It has been a difficult few years for the Cornwall Mayor and former MP. On a personal level Kilger faced perhaps his most difficult challenge to date battling cancer. On a political level he faced perhaps his most difficult term with the 1.4 million dollar human resources boondoggle  at City Hall.

Now the former NHL referee and Cornwall Royals Coach is ready to face off with a former Video Statographer for the Montreal Canadiens. Bob Kilger’s only opponent thus far is Jamie Gilcig. Mr. Gilcig ,who is Editor of the Cornwall Free News, was the first to announce his run for Mayor.

Jamie Gilcig

A lot has changed since the 2010 election when Mr. Gilcig endorsed Bob Kilger for Mayor. The out spoken gonzo journalist has had a less than cordial relationship with City Hall since then. The climax of which was when Mayor Bob Kilger hit the panic button and had Mr. Gilcig removed from Council Chambers for a t-shirt he disapproved of (the shirt depicted the Mayor on a milk cartoon with the headline ‘missing’).

Mr. Gilcig has criticized the Mayor for being missing several times, including during the final budget session, and most recently at a public meeting concerning the waterfront storage tanks.

Born in Montreal Quebec, Gilcig is a screen writer, owner of Seaway Radio online, and former owner of Auctionpie.com. He is also a past director of the Cornwall Chamber of Commerce, and in 2011 he was nominated the Federal Green Party candidate for the SDSG riding.

The next Cornwall municipal election takes place October 27th 2014. Those wishing to run for Council have until 2pm on September 12th 2014.
