Cornwall Ontairo — After 20 years of service to a key local not-for-profit organization, an energetic City resident has been named the 2014 recipient of Cornwall Senior Citizen of the Year. D’Arcy Grant, a long-time and instrumental volunteer with Big Brothers, Big Sisters of Cornwall & District was notified of the honour in mid-June. D’Arcy will be recognized at several local events through the lead up, and on, July 1st.

“D’Arcy has donated so much time and effort to our agency,” said his nominator Amanda Brisson, Executive Director of Big Brothers Big Sisters of Cornwall & District. “Over the past 21 years, he has been an unstoppable force that is known very much in the community for his involvement with our agency.”

Grant has served as a Board Member since 1998 to present (he has only missed serving one year during that period due to term limits), was President of the organization in 2003 and Treasurer for four years. In addition, he sits on 3 BBBS Committees per year and has participated in two agency accreditations with great success.

“D’Arcy is exactly the type of community volunteer that we want to recognize through this Award,” said Cornwall Canada Day Chair Guy Lauzon. “He has been a great inspiration to many people, of all ages, to get involved in their community and be passionate about the causes they care about.”

Grant will be recognized at both the Cornwall Canada Day Seniors Breakfast at the Cornwall Legion on July 1st, as well as at the Lamoureux Park bandshell before the closing fireworks.
