Cornwall Ontario — Tuesday, December 2nd is Giving Tuesday, a day dedicated to giving back in the midst of the holiday spending season. United Way/Centraide of Stormont, Dundas & Glengarry are marking Giving Tuesday by encouraging everyone to give back in some way to our community. “Giving can mean giving time, items or financial contributions”, said Sherry Davis, Program and Event Coordinator with United Way. “We encourage people to give in a way that is meaningful to them”.

The Giving Tuesday movement encourages individuals and organizations to join together and find innovative ways to give back to the charities and causes they support. “Here at the United Way office, we are anxious to participate in Giving Tuesday”, said Lori Greer, Executive Director. “We have invited our volunteers to drop by the office on Tuesday for a treat as a way to say thank you for the time and commitment they give to our organization. Also, we will be giving cookies to passersby in downtown Cornwall around lunch time – a little something to brighten your day from United Way.”

The City of Cornwall, the Townships of South Glengarry, North Glengarry and North Dundas are all recognizing December 2, 2014 as Giving Tuesday. Groups of individuals throughout SDG will be participating in this initiative by volunteering in their community or donating to local charities. “Let us know what you are doing on Giving Tuesday and see what others are doing – visit our Giving Tuesday United Way of SD&G page on Facebook” said Davis.
