Cornwall Ontario — Cornwall City Council has declared the week of December 14th as Children’s Christmas Fund Week in the City of Cornwall.
On Tuesday, Mayor Leslie O’Shaughnessy joined with members of the Cornwall and District Service Club Council to raise the Children’s Christmas Fund flag at the Justice Building next to City Hall on Pitt Street.
An annual initiative with roots dating back to 1928, the Children’s Christmas Fund strives to provide food and toys to families in need in Cornwall and surrounding area.
This year, some 1,300 families will be assisted through the Children’s Christmas Fund, with the assistance of the Agape Centre and the Salvation Army. Hundreds of volunteers will be on hand Thursday to help distribute the goods to families at the Cornwall Armoury.
“It is a total community effort,” said Peter Morgan, Chair of the Children’s Christmas Fund Board of Directors.
Since its inception, it’s estimated the Children’s Christmas Fund has raised over $1 million and assisted over 26,000 families.
