Local business manager and community activist Todd Bennett has announced that he has officially filed the necessary papers and will be running for the office of Councillor for the City of Cornwall.
Very actively involved in city matters for the last 8 years, he has chaired the Culture Plan Committee and the Waterfront Committee, both major committees of Council.

He also sits on the board of Team Cornwall, Your Arts Council, as well as the Big Brothers Big Sisters Bowl for Kids Sake Committee.

As chair of the Culture Plan Committee, he was able to help produce the Feasibility Study that has moved the city forward with major steps towards at last creating our own Arts Center. “I understand what a strong arts and culture sector can mean to the economic well being of our community. This will create strong economic spin offs for local businesses and help revitalize the downtown
core “said Bennett.

As chair of the Waterfront Committee, Bennett proposed the idea of turning a portion of the vastly under utilized Guindon Park, into an urban campground. “Urban campgrounds are becoming very popular in cities the size of Cornwall, with most being at near capacity for the summer season. All the amenities are already there, such as water, sewer, electricity, washrooms and showers. This will generate much needed income for the city and pass tax relief on to the residents of Cornwall.”

A business manager himself, he seeks to bring forward the idea of offering bonuses to City department managers that are able to effect cost savings. This will encourage belt tightening and looking for appropriate savings at every turn and will concretely help to lower taxes.
