New Cycling Tourism Ambassadors hit the trails in SDG

THE COUNTY, Ontario – Visitors and staycationers can count on a pair of SDG ambassadors to help them with everything from finding the most picturesque cycling route in the County, to helping to change a bicycle tire.

Aimee Curotte and Andy Gadbois are the new Cycling Tourism Ambassadors employed this summer by the United Counties of SDG. Their main duties will include patrolling the waterfront trail and providing mobile visitor services experiences, greeting visitors, respond-ing to inquiries, and promoting the SDG region. Also, they will be delivering the SDG Cornwall Adventure Club Cycle Map and help build out the Ride with GPS platform.

This week they even helped a cycling tourist from Toronto to change a bicycle tire.

“As COVID-19 restrictions are loosened, more people are enjoying our popular cycling trails,” said Karina Belanger, County tourism coordinator. “Our students have completed their training and will be spending much of their time interacting – while physically distancing – with visitors and cyclists to showcase amenities in and around SDG.”

Both students are looking forward to the balance of the summer and helping individuals visiting the County or enjoying some time close to home.

Andy, 18, of Long Sault, will be studying philosophy online via Carleton University this fall. “This job is a great way to give back to the community. It’s great to help people out and talk to them while we’re out there.”

Aimee, 20, of Cornwall, is studying nursing at the University of Ottawa. “I’m really enjoying being able to be outside and help people I wouldn’t normally to able to interact with.”
