Saturday was a long awaited day for many Cornwallites. Yesterday was the day to get their fix of Tampicos, a beloved area restaurant with loyal customers that closed its doors last year to focus on catering. And it doubled as a fundraiser, a sure win-win.

The event was setup at the parking lot at Freshco and the meals were presold online, as a head count was necessary to purchase all the items needed for the meals. The amazing staff of Tampicos prepared and served around 1,000 taquitos that people, including our MPP Eric Duncan, lined up to pickup their food on a nice sunny Saturday afternoon. People were friendly, courteous and adhered to all recommendations in place to flatten the curb or coronavirus.

The Optimist Club of Cornwall would like to thank FreshCo, Giant Tiger, Cardinal Meats for their generous contributions to this event, and of course, Tampicos’ Ivan, Anna and family for their time and talents. “It was heartwarming to see the Tampicos family working so hard to help us help others. Thank you to everyone who supported our fundraiser and donated to our cause,” said Terry Muir, President of the Optimist Club of Cornwall.

The next fundraiser for the Optimist Club is the BBQ taking place Saturday at Canadian Tire. There is also a Tailgate Comedy Show featuring the “Questionable Comedians” scheduled for next Saturday at the Optimist Park. Details available at https://optimistclubofcornwall.org.
