By Kevin Lajoie, choosecornwall.ca – Cornwall’s rich offering of world cuisine is about to get even better with the arrival of Flavour Kingdom.

The new Montreal Road restaurant will feature authentic Indian cuisine served fresh daily, seven days a week.

“People will get to taste something new. We will have unique dishes that you only get in India,” said Gurpriya Kaur, the daughter in the family-run business along with her parents Paramjit Singh and Baljit Kaur. “People are going to love the variety, the new foods and dishes that will get to experience.”

The seeds for the new restaurant were planted when Gurpriya was first living in Cornwall and studying at St. Lawrence College.

“I always had a craving for Indian flavours and there weren’t many options so I asked my dad to come here (and open a restaurant),” she recalls.

The operator of a successful Indian restaurant in Brampton, Singh has over 30 years of experience in the restaurant business, including some in his native country of India.

The seeds of the restaurant quickly grew to established roots in Cornwall.

“I went to Toronto (after university) and I was doing online classes. I find it so crowded there. I said now’s the time let’s move to Cornwall and open the business. When they (Paramjit and Baljit) came here they loved it,” said Gurpriya.

The family has spent several months renovating the space in anticipation of serving up authentic breakfast, lunch and dinner options. Some signature items include fresh Naan made daily using an in-house tandoor, Golgappas, a spicy potato-based treat that is sure to turn heads, mouth-watering Curry and more.

“I’m 100 per cent sure people in Cornwall are going to love it,” Gurpriya adds.

The restaurant will feature a beautiful Indian-themed interior to go along with the food. But for now, in light of the pandemic, the eatery will be serving via takeout and delivery only. Orders can also be placed via web apps like Skip the Dishes and Door Dash.

“We will also be doing a 15 per cent discount for all frontline workers to go along with keeping our prices low for everyone,” said Gurpriya.

Flavour Kingdom is located at 208 Montreal Road and is open seven days a week from 8 am to 10 pm.
