For just the second time in its 171-year history, a female will be the Warden of the United Counties of Stormont, Dundas and Glengarry.

Carma Williams, the Deputy Mayor of the Township of North Glengarry, was today elected by her peers around the County Council table to sit as Warden in 2022.

The last time a female led County Council was in 2008, when Estella Rose, then the Deputy Mayor of North Dundas, sat as Warden.

“It is an honour that my colleagues around the Council table saw fit to put their trust in me,” said Williams following her election. “The County finds itself well- positioned as we enter what I believe is the beginning of the end of the impact the COVID-19 pandemic has had on our region. We have seen record development in SDG. It is now Council’s job to capitalize on this momentum and ensure that the County continues to provide programming and services that will benefit all those that call this region their home.”

Council decides every autumn who will sit as Warden for the coming year. Williams will be sworn in in December.
