Has the opinion of the 500 people who challenged the City’s proposed use of the Joe St. Denis/Bob Turner site at the public meeting held at City Hall on June 6, 2023 been forgotten or ignored?
At a recent City Council meeting regarding plans to forward action for a multisport outdoor recreation facility on the grounds of the Benson Centre, it was reported that interested community groups were canvassed. Councillor E. MacDonald, then introduced the subject of an impending report, to be issued this spring about the possibility of building affordable housing on the site of the old Bob Turner Centre.
It’s great that the sports groups were consulted, but what about the fact that the Benson Centre is only readily accessible to 1/3 of the community? What about the local community who made it very clear that they want this site preserved as a Park? Is the City going to consult the neighbours, the community at large regarding accessibility; were we forgotten, do we need another petition and public meeting, or is it a done deal and our opinions are irrelevant?
