In a landmark achievement, St. Lawrence College (SLC) has been granted national accreditation for its Bachelor of Science Nursing (BScN) program by the Canadian Association of Schools of Nursing (CASN). This accolade distinguishes SLC as the first college in Ontario to receive such recognition for a stand-alone BScN degree, marking a significant stride in nursing education within the region.

The accreditation, a rigorous process conducted by CASN, is a testament to the quality and efficacy of the BScN program at SLC. Through a comprehensive review that measured the program against high standards of quality assurance and continuous improvement, SLC has demonstrated its unwavering commitment to excellence in nursing education.

Glenn Vollebregt, President and CEO of SLC, expressed pride in the institution’s achievement, highlighting it as a reflection of the hard work and dedication of the faculty, staff, and students. “This accreditation reaffirms our dedication to providing top-notch nursing education and preparing our students for successful healthcare careers, a commitment we’ve held for over 50 years,” he stated.

Furthermore, SLC provides a bridge for Practical Nurses (PNs) seeking to elevate their qualifications with a Bachelor of Science in Nursing through the RPN to RN Bridge program. With this accreditation, CASN is set to continue its collaboration with St. Lawrence College, anticipating future accreditations for additional programs.

Dr. Barb LeBlanc, Associate VP, Academic, Dean Health and Wellness at SLC, emphasized the college’s dedication to maintaining the highest standards in nursing education and its continuous pursuit of improvement. “This accreditation is a crucial milestone in our journey, and we are excited to keep advancing our programs and supporting our students in achieving their career goals,” she remarked.

The accreditation of SLC’s nursing program by CASN not only highlights the quality of education provided but also ensures that graduates are well-prepared to meet the evolving demands of the healthcare industry. As St. Lawrence College continues to foster excellence in nursing education, this achievement serves as a beacon of its dedication to cultivating healthcare professionals who are equipped with the knowledge, skills, and compassion necessary to excel in their field.
