May 10, 2024 – Forty talented students from the Upper Canada District School Board (UCDSB) showcased their skills and dedication at the 2024 Skills Ontario Competition held in Toronto, May 6-7. These students, who had previously qualified at the SKLZ competition , SKLZ carpentry competition , SKLZ intermediate competition and the Skills Ontario Qualifier , demonstrated their expertise across various disciplines, representing the school board with pride.
The 2024 Skills Ontario Competition, which drew more than 2,800 competitors from school boards across the province, serves as a platform to celebrate and recognize excellence in a wide array of skills and careers spanning the manufacturing, construction, service, and technology sectors.
Among the standout performances, the Grade 7/8 Team of 4 from Glengarry District High School consisting of students Shahnoor Bajwa, Callan MacDonald, Shaelynn MacLeod and Mae Ella McCormick, excelled in the Green Energy category, winning the gold medal.
In the Secondary Heavy Equipment Service event, Grade 12 Vankleek Hill Collegiate Institute student Tyler Jones exhibited remarkable skill and precision, securing the gold medal in his category.
Additionally, Grade 11 Glengarry DHS student Cohen Williams demonstrated outstanding craftsmanship in the Secondary Individual Carpentry Competition, earning the silver medal.
