The Eastern Ontario Writers’ Festival – Happening today – SATURDAY, SEPTEMBER 7th
Today is the day that The Eastern Ontario Writers’ Festival is taking place at the Cornwall Public Library and I had a chance to catch up with the organizers and ask them the Seeker’s 5 Questions about the event. 1. What is the Eastern Ontario Writers’ Festival and when and where is it taking place?
The Eastern Ontario Writers’ Festival is a writing conference, happening on September 7 at the Cornwall Public Library, where writers can learn from seasoned authors via workshops and can network with other writers within the Eastern Ontario area. It also includes a book fair in the afternoon for book lovers who are keen to support local authors. There will be twenty-two authors featured covering a variety of genres.
2. Who are the organizers behind the Eastern Ontario Writers’ Festival, and what inspired you to create this event?
You know that saying, a rising tide lifts all boats? Local author Leah Lindeman thought of how writers in the area could help each other and recruited authors Emily Murray and Melissa Yi and book reader and graphic designer Josée Plourde. We all came together to help create the Eastern Ontario Writers’ Festival. Now you can meet other creators, attend workshops, get a headshot photo, and visit a massive book fair, all for free! 3. What can attendees expect from the Eastern Ontario Writers’ Festival’s inaugural event. Is there a schedule of events and activities?
Here is the breakdown of events for the day!
9:15-9:45….mixer for creatives
9:45-10……..welcome/ explanation of the day
10-11………….workshop 1
11-12………….workshop 2
12-1:40………lunch/ book fair set up
1:40-4:30……….book fair
9:30-12 is for writers wishing to learn from the their chosen workshop speaker of the hour.
2-4:30 is for a book fair for the public.
4. Who are the guest speakers for the morning sessions at the Eastern Ontario Writers’ Festival?
The guest speakers and their workshops are the following: Melissa Yi is teaching world building for your novel. Emily Murray is sharing her tips on how to get into bookstores. Grace R. Pringle will map out how to flesh out your story from a blank page to a first draft. Mona Storm will teach how to create realistic animal companions in fiction. Leah Lindeman will help writers understand the pros and cons of traditional or indie publishing and which one would be best suited for them.
