Elizabeth is Bringing Cornwall to Life—One Page at a Time

When art, storytelling, and community spirit collide, something truly special is born. That’s exactly what happened with Cornwall’s very first locally-themed colouring book.

An inspired project straight from the heart of a creator who wears many hats: publisher, artist, and advocate for change, this passion project blends creativity with purpose, celebrating the charm of Cornwall’s landmarks while supporting an important cause close to home. We caught up with the visionary behind the book, Elizabeth J Campbell of The Elite Lizzard Publishing Company, to talk inspiration, illustration, and how one small business is working to make a big difference—one book, and one act of kindness, at a time.

What inspired you to create this locally-themed Cornwall colouring book, and how did you decide which locations or landmarks to feature?

Every corner of Cornwall tells a story, and I wanted to capture that magic in a way that everyone could experience. Choosing the locations and landmarks was easy because those places stood out in my mind when I think of this place. This colouring book is more than just a fun activity; it’s a way for people to engage with its beauty in their own creative way. My hope is that this book not only brings joy, but also inspires people to see how much the power a book can have in helping others.

Also, who did the illustrations, and what made them the right fit for this project?

I did the illustration artwork. I took some inspiration from Ai and fixed it to create my own original artwork. See, I am not only a publisher, but also an artist. This was a fun project to create. The artwork is light and fun and has a lot of wildlife mixed in.  I wanted to show them as well, since they are an important part of the landscape.

Your company’s motto is “help change the world, one book at a time.” Why did you choose Baldwin House as the beneficiary for this project, and what does supporting their work mean to you personally?

This is a passion project for me as I always wanted to do something to give back to the community I live in. Choosing Maison Baldwin House was also a personal choice, as a survivor of domestic violence. Knowing place like this exists to help saves the lives of women and children, that makes it an easy choice to want to help out.

The Elite Lizzard Publishing Company emphasizes assisting writers. Could you elaborate on the support and services you offer to authors, both locally in Cornwall and globally?

My company goes above and beyond in helping my clients be successful. From the beginning, I help them navigate through the process, with helpful marketing advice, social media posts to help promote their book even well after the books been published, and more, I give 100% of my efforts to them so they can shine as authors.

What challenges have you encountered in establishing a publishing company in Cornwall, and how have you addressed them to foster a thriving literary community?

Well, it has had its challenges, getting known in the community but with contests and other fun things I have come up with its become quite fun to think of new ways to get people aware. We are running a Easter Basket contest for Easter with  the Tickle Your Fancy store on Pitt St. Our books are one of the many things that they can win! We have had in the past, a colouring contest for kids, and also a book giveaway at the No Frills, just to name a few.

Beyond the upcoming colouring book, what future projects or initiatives does The Elite Lizzard Publishing Company have planned to further engage with and benefit the Cornwall community.

Oh, I am just getting warmed up! I hope to create more charity books for the community and sign many more local writers! In the future, I would like to do something perhaps with funding for pro-food, or even pro-housing, we shall see. I believe that change can come from just doing one thing and then it causes a ripple effect. Kindness is contagious, just like hate is. Now, more than ever, we must choose kindness, not because it’s easy, but because our community needs it. In a time when negativity floods our screens and fear spreads like wildfire, kindness and compassion is our most powerful response. Change begins with a single choice: to lead with love, to uplift instead of tear down, and to inspire through our actions. From just one book, one moment, or one person at a time. We have the power to help make things better for everyone in our community, and yes even the world, and it starts with us.
