A diverse group of American expats, dual citizens, and allies are set to rally at Major’s Hill Park tomorrow as part of a global mobilization against what organizers call the “cruel and lawless” actions of Donald Trump and his billionaire allies.
The event, titled “Hands Off!”, is the first organized protest by Indivisible Ottawa, a newly formed Canadian chapter of the U.S.-based grassroots movement Indivisible.org. Set to coincide with mass demonstrations across North America on April 5, the protest will bring attention to a range of issues, including government corruption, cuts to essential social programs, and threats to democracy at home and abroad.
Standing Up for the Vulnerable
At the heart of the protest is a threefold message:
- End the corrupt takeover of government by unelected billionaires.
- Protect social safety nets like Social Security and Medicaid from reckless federal cuts.
- Stop attacks on immigrants and marginalized communities.
Indivisible Ottawa is also taking a firm stance in support of Canada, strongly condemning recent insults and threats aimed northward, including talk of annexation and the escalation of a pointless trade war. “We stand in solidarity with Canada and reject any attempt to threaten its sovereignty or economy,” said a spokesperson for the group.

A Peaceful Stand for Justice
Organizers are expecting a robust turnout, with dozens already registered online and more anticipated to show up anonymously. The weekly protest location, Major’s Hill Park, has become a regular gathering spot for Canadians, Americans, and other allies who oppose Trump-era politics.
Participants are reminded that nonviolent action is a core principle of all Hands Off! events. Marshals in yellow vests will be present to help keep things safe and peaceful.
Rain is in the forecast, so attendees are encouraged to dress accordingly and bring signs if they wish. A volunteer nurse will be onsite, and the event is fully accessible, with support available for anyone who needs assistance.
Groups like 50501, Touque Off, and Blue Canadian have also joined forces to support the protest and amplify its message.
As one organizer put it, “We may live outside the U.S., but we refuse to stay silent. Trump’s decisions don’t just harm Americans—they ripple across borders. We’re here to say: Enough.”
