As the new year arrives, and I reflect back on my past year in my gardens, it’s clear to me that the challenges and successes offered many valuable lessons.
Some of my plans thrived while others showed me my limits with time, energy and experience. The weather and time restraints played a role in what was realistically achievable. These moments while both rewarding and frustrating offered insight to how much gardening is about patience and observation, as it is about planning and ambition.
Moving forward, I need to be more realistic about setting goals more honest about how much time and money can be given to my garden.
A garden should fit into and enhance your life, not compete with it. Overwhelming oneself can turn your garden dreams for peace, beauty and creativity into a source of stress and constant upkeep.
When your plans are rooted in balance rather than excess, gardening will become a source of joy, renewal, and satisfaction.
Here’s to a year of moving forward with realistic goals and expectations so that we can all enjoy our gardens of life.
