I was in shock when I read that The City has put a “Pause” to the Bridge Housing Project. The community was told that Council would vote/choose one of the three locations proposed and that all funding had been received, with construction starting soon this spring/summer.
So WHY the “Pause”? An in-camera meeting and no explanation to the public, yet so many public meetings and surveys were completed, only for us to have no idea why this outcome happened. We aren’t allowed to know which councilor voted in favor. Is this really fair?
At the public meetings over 90% of the audience were not in favor of this project, so this has led me and others, to believe that this “Pause” catered to their wishes. Not In My Backyard – such selfish behavior haunted me for days.
I am very thankful to Melissa Morgan and Lisa Smith / Housing Department who put in countless hours working on this proposal, I can’t even begin to imagine how they must feel.
Now what? More delays, more money spent on trying to find other solutions, more meetings, research and studies…. To what end!
The homeless people will be left to freeze, struggle and face horrific weather conditions yet again this coming winter. This is inhumane and unjust. Besides, is it really best to leave the homeless in the park where most people complain at how the park is being kept and that they don’t feel safe going there anymore?
What’s better? And for Whom? You tell me!
