Not too long ago two ladies from The Housing Department were ‘let go’, namely Lisa Smith and Mellissa Morgan. Our City Officials said these departures were because of restructuring and for The City to save money, but just months later both of these positions were filled. Margaret Durocher was appointed to Lisa Smith’s position and Juliette Labossiere was placed into Mellissa’s position on an interim basis.
I am not saying that Margaret and Juliette aren’t great candidates, but WHY was there no call for applications, perhaps this is the way HR works, perhaps not? Why has nobody questioned this? Why were Lisa and Mellissa let go in the first place, as it surely wasn’t to save money or to restructure these positions! No transparency, yet again and I believe we should know why this happened?
More hard questions: Lisa and Mellissa worked tirelessly for several months on the Bridge Housing project, it was announced that the construction start date would be June 2026, and that ALL funding was secured and wouldn’t cost the tax payer a cent. It was just a matter of securing a location, and three sites were proposed, meetings held, the community involved…. yet this project was put on “pause” by The City with no explanation to the public – why was that? Especially since the public was involved since day one.
These are just some of the burning questions myself and many others have. It’s matters like this that lack transparency with our City Officials and with an election happening next month, ALL residents of Cornwall should be thinking about these, and other hard questions when it comes time to vote.
I’m beyond fed up with all the ‘in camera’ / no explanations to many issues in Cornwall, when the citizens of our city have a right to know!
